Poem: Camels

Camels

It’s camels…with kings on their backs!

Here’s another poem I wrote for some 5-6 year-olds in Sunderland for their nativity one year. They pretended to be camels and read a bit about them, and then they told me how it felt to be a camel, and how they thought the real camels would feel taking the kings to see baby Jesus in Bethlehem. camels croppedTheir ideas and thoughts were moulded into this poem, which they recited in dramatic fashion along with the “Sheep” poem of a few days ago.

Once again, the poem is performed by Sid Porteous. The music in the background is the 2nd of “Four Pieces for Brass Quintet”, entitled “Ballad”. It has a slow, melodic character with jazz-inspired chords accompanying.
