Christingle

Cheryl composed a brand new Christingle song for Alnwick South First School at the end of November, following  a request from their Music Coordinator, Anne Marie Grimes. After an initial action-packed learning visit to the school by Cheryl at the beginning of December 2013, the children continued to practice the song with Anne Marie and also by using the learning video on Cheryl’s YouTube channel seapieparcel http://youtu.be/6DmbnQ3z93Y

The song, “Tiny, Flickering Flame”, was performed by the whole school in a very moving celebration on December 20th, the last day of term, in front of an invited audience of parents and school helpers and friends. You can see on the photo that the school was adorned with the children’s Christingles. A constant vigil was kept by the teaching staff, who were ready with the snuffers, as some of the candles keeled over in the excitement, and one or two started sparking in a festive manner during the proceedings. All went smoothly, safely and tunefully. A photographer/reporter from the Northumberland Gazette was present and a brief story appeared in the Christmas Eve edition of the newspaper complete with a photo.
