Grassington Festival 2013

Following preliminary energetic workshops led by Cheryl  in six Yorkshire Dales schools, during which two stories were created, five weathery dollops of incidental music were composed for Ping Pong Ball Orchestra and Balloon Band, and five new verses of our Weather Song were written, we all came together on Wednesday June 19th in Grassington Town Hall for our performance workshops.

KS2 children from Beamsley, Kettlewell and Cracoe  in the morning, and from Threshfield, Grassington and Burnsall in the afternoon, gathered to hear each other’s contributions for the first time, see their vibrant graphic scores, and pull all their ideas together in a performance to Grassington Festival volunteers and their teachers. The performances were recorded and will be heard as a sound installation in the Town Hall.

18Bryony Pritchard, the Festival’s Visual Arts Director wrote: “We love this image from one of the school workshops yesterday. A young lad transfixed by Cheryl Camm’s multi-coloured musical scores with his dustbin and ping ball instrument at the ready!….Exhausted just looking at these images – […Cheryl has…] soooo much energy!!! It was such a brilliant day and project. And the sound recording was played out in the Town Hall every day during the exhibition open hours.”
