Mr. Haktak, Lei Kung & Dijun

Cheryl worked with teachers in Whalton, Longhorsley and Cambo first schools to facilitate composing based upon the current curriculum-wide themes – “Near and Far” (including hot and cold, China) resulting in compositions by myself and the children using Chinese stories and musical characteristics. Each school performed its own version of a Chinese story in an “opera” style: Mr. Haktak’s Geometric Azure Moonscape; Dijun and the Sun Birds; Lei Kung and the Storm Tree. Cheryl also worked with students to create a schools’ anthem based on their ideas about what was important to them about their own school and community and what distinguished it from the other two. The anthem was performed by the entire three schools in for their Olympic day at Gateshead Stadium, each school having their own verse and joining together for the chorus. This project was funded by Creative Partnerships.
