Summer Serenade

On June 30th 2013 Alnwick and District Choral Society under the direction of Peter Brown, included three of Cheryl’s pieces in their Summer Serenade concert. Her arrangement of the Tyneside folksong “Cushie Butterfield” was  given its world premiere in this concert by ADCS. “Magical Glass” tells the tale of Sunderland’s glass-making heritage through the first use of glass in a church window by Benedict Biscop, the Victorian heyday of Sunderland glass manufacturing, the monopoly in Sunderland of Pyrex manufacture in the mid 20th century, to the art glass for which Sunderland is famous today. Four Pence A Day is another story of the North-east’s industrial heritage, this time lead mining in Upper Weardale.
