Song Stories: Robinson Crusoe

Robinson Crusoe

It’s someone less fortunate than us!

Poor old Robinson Crusoe, stranded on his island for years on end, initially with no-one to talk to – quite a lonely figure he cuts. Ah me!

This song was composed for the children of  St. John Vianney’s RC Primary School in Brisbane, and was one of the most popular songs I ever wrote for them – and there were many! We performed a pop-up-story-book version of the Daniel Defoe classic and this song was interwoven into the production. It was subsequently performed by the choir and whole school on several occasions, resolutely out of context, and merely because we all liked it so much!

march easter april 005It has had a similar experience at Alnwick South First School, and I know of a school in Nottingham have enjoyed it too. It is now included in the Sea Pie Parcel collection of songs for young choirs and classes and has a descant and optional harmony part to challenge those eager part-singers!
