On February 3rd Rock Festival Choir sang Cheryl’s gentle setting of The Lamb as the anthem at Longhoughton Church’s Candelmas service. This has proved a popular song with the choir and their audiences since its premiere in Advent 2005. The Lamb makes much use of melismatic vocal writing and flowing accompaniment patterns. It was first composed for the children of Grangetown Primary School in Sunderland who sang it many times as a single line melody with piano accompaniment. The choir had earlier sung the SATB version of The Lamb in the 2012 Advent concert at St. Paul’s Church in Alnwick. You can hear their advent performance of the song here: http://youtu.be/wGpO8cQst_Y One member of the Candelmas congregation, Jane Dargue wrote, ” Beautiful Candlemass service at Longhoughton with Rock Festival Choir. Setting of ‘The Lamb’ by @seapieparcel absolutely uplifting.” Rock Festival Choir is named after the small village of Rock in Northumberland, and was formed to celebrate the historic organ in Rock Church.
