The tale of a little-known ice disaster along the River Wear in Sunderland in January 1841 when ice flowing downstream got caught behind the bridges, then suddenly broke free, causing destruction as it raced towards the river mouth.

Here’s a video of January 1841, accompanying some images of a trip to Northern Ireland. There were no tenors nor basses on hand when this was recorded, so all parts are sung by sopranos and altos – but all the parts are there, so you get the idea!
