Tiny, Temporary Pop Up Puddles (SATB)

£1.90

Tiny, Temporary Pop Up Puddles is quite the soundscape with much use of vocal percussion and dramatic vocal gestures giving added meaning to Ian McMillan’s words. There’s the opportunity to use ping pong balls dropped onto a hard surface too!

Here is a short clip of the song, but you can find a full recording/video at the bottom of the page.

Description

“Tiny, Temporary Pop Up Puddles” is part of the Silent Early Stroll collection of songs for SATB choir. These seven songs use early stroll tweets from Ian McMillan, all of which contain the word “silent” or “silence”. They were composed for The Bridge Singers during the lockdowns of 2020-2021 and were performed as a set by them in 2022. Each song can also be performed individually. You read about all seven songs here!

Tiny, Temporary Pop Up Puddles has distinct music for each of Ian’s sentences, each with its own character, but they are unified by a use of voice percussion sounds, in particular a tut-tut-tut which is an attempt to simulate the strolling. When we first performed this, we had the tutting move in a panorama or Mexican Wave around the choir. We also used dropped ping pong balls at the end instead of the vocal popping sounds. Sounds good on hard surfaces!
