In 2013 I was asked to produce four songs for a primary school production of “Snow White”. They already had a script, and wanted songs in “modern” styles.

1. We’re Coming Home
This one uses the “beguine” rhythm setting from my Yamaha keyboard and utilizes the intro and ending presets, but apart from that it’s all mine!

It was to be sung by the seven dwarfs as they made their way home from a day of work and found that (at this point unknown to them) Snow White had let herself into their house and helped herself to some of their post-toil snacks.

2. Spag Time
Part of their script included the storyline that while Snow White was enjoying the hospitality of the seven dwarfs, she not only would be keeping their house fresh as a daisy, but she would be helping them and the creatures of the forest with some school work. The timing of this production happily coincided with the first ever SPAG or Spelling and Grammar tests for the primary school children, so I decided to make the learning they were doing down in the forest as topical as I could!

Here’s a video of Spag Time. This video has been the most used of all four Snow White Songs. I know that some schools have used it as a bit of light relief during the weeks of SPaG tests.

3. A Catalogue Of Unspeakable Fiendishness
The wicked step-mother of our heroine who cannot really bare the thought of someone being more lovely than she, employs some boffins to invent ways of getting rid of her. This litany of rather ingenious cruelty is outlined in this song, to be sung jointly by the Step-Queen herself and the poor old boffins who I imagine to be only concerned with their own cleverness rather than the potentially tragic human consequences of their work.

4. I Will, I Will, I Will, I Will, I Will
The only song of the four I borrowed from another project – a project of mine, so I did indeed write it myself. This originally was the wedding song from Red Jemma Goes Back at Alnwick South First School. I just adapted the lyrics to suit this script.
