Song Stories: Dancing Stream

Dancing Stream

It’s a frosty landscape!

I composed this song as part of the Winter Wear production at Grangetown Primary School in Sunderland in which all the classes from Year1 to Year 6 explored a different region along the River Wear and told its story in song, dance, art and stories. The items were performed in river order going from the source in Upper weardale down to the shipyards in Sunderland. This was planned as the opening number in the performance, as it tells of the tributary streams which lead into the river at Wearhead, and was to be performed by the choir a a unison song. As it turned out the production was too long so it was omitted and performed by them in a special assembly later in the week.

I then arranged the song for SATB choir with SSA soloists, and it has been performed in this format by the Rock Festival Choir of Alnwick on a couple of occasions.

I have also made this arrangement for SATB choir and orchestra. No-one has ever performed it, so if you fancy the idea, contact me!
